Storm - 3D Studio Max Tutorial |

| |
Hello my friends. I've shown you how to make rain and fire so I guess it's time to make us some lightings bolts. In this tutorial I won't be using any plugins just 3d Studio max's particle capabilities. |
| |
Let's begin. Open a new project and create a square deflector. Place it at (0,0,0). This is where our lightings will stop (consider it the ground) |
Next create a wind force. Give it the following values. |

Next step is to create a pFlow. Make sure that its size is smaller much smaller than the deflector. Place it at (0,0,200) . Enter the pFlow menu. |
Here is all the juice of this tutorial. We are going to make some fast particles that will leave a trail of where they have passed and at random points split up while still leaving a trail. |

I'll explain briefly what is done in each event.
| Event 01 |
| Speed 01 | Delete 01 | Spawn 01 | Force 01 | | | | |
In this event particles are born and given initial parameters. As they travel they spawn new particles which are sent to Event 03. If particles in Event 01 hit our deflector they will be deleted |
| |
Event 02 |
| Split Amount 01 | Force 04 | Delete 03 | | | |
In this event the spawned particles are disturbed by a wind force to give them a more random look. Every 200 particles that come in Event 03 one passes to Event 04
Event 04 |
| Speed 02 | Spawn 02 | Force 03 | Delete 04 | | | | |
In this event you can consider each particle as a source which travels through space and leaves a random trail. The spawn trails are passed again to Event 02 and the cycle goes on. |
Now that your scene is ready give a material high white-blue Self-Illumination and some opacity on the edges and you are done.
If your scene doesn't look like mine consider moving upwards your pflow emitter. After you are done you will have created a basis on which you can make more complicated scenes. Consider also adding glow effects. |
The scene with materials included is available for download |
