Hologram with 3D Studio Max |

In this tutorial I'll show you how to make a hologram in 3d Studio Max, just like the one in the image above. |
We begin by creating the item we want to look like a hologram. In my case I'll use a teapot which I'll place at (0,0,0). Give it a radius 30 |
Then we create a circle which then we convert to editable poly. Place it at (0,0,-10). Now we animate the circle. Enable auto key, go to frame 1 and place it at (0,0,85). Go to track editor and on Out-Off-Range select loop. Copy the circle and give it a 25 frames cycle instead of 1 frame. |
Now create a new spotlight. Enable shadow map. Open the include menu select “include", “both" illumination and shadow and select the teapot and the first circle (important). Place the spotlight at (50,300,300) and its target at (0,0,0). |
We now create the materials for our objects. |
This is the material of both circles. Make a standard material. Give it a material ID Channel 1. Give it a green diffuse color. For the self-illumination create a noise “fractal" map with 50 “amount". |

For the opacity map create a mix map. |

For the Mix Amount map create a “gradient ramp". |

For the Color #1 map select a tile map. |

For the Color #2 map give it a white color. The opacity map should look like this. |

This is the material of the teapot. Make a standard material. Give it a material ID Channel 2. Give it a “falloff" map for self-illumination |

Give it a “falloff" map for opacity. (this is important!!!) |

Go to environment and effects and create a new lens effect. Create a new glow. Give it material id 1. |

Create a new glow. Give it material id 2. |

Create a new camera and make it point at the teapot. Enable motion-blur. Enable Render Effects Per Pass and give it the following properties. |
