Twisted Wires Tutorial ( 3D Studio Max )

 by Arxwn

Detail is everything in 3d.  Small details like screws ,bolts, debris, wires add to the scene and make it more realistic.

In this tutorial following my tank track tutorial I'll demonstrate the many uses of path deform by making some twisted wires.
Of course you can expand the concept and make many things with path deform like for example barbed wire.

We begin with a cylinder (pic1). Just make sure it has lots of height segments.

Copy our cylinder like this

Convert one of the cylinders to editable poly and attach all the cylinders  to it.

Create the shape of your wire.

Add path deform (WSM) to your mesh. Pick the line you created and select move to path.
On twist value enter 5000.

Here I use a different path to make it look like barbed wire. (barbed wire)

You can also animate path deform by changing its values along time.
